What size of frame is best for my raft?

Collect measurements for your raft, and we can advise at a free initial consultation what size frame will work best for you.

How do you measure a raft for a frame?

Working with the manufacturers, we generally have all the specs needed to build your frame. But boat manufacturers do have a +/-  1-2 inches of difference so if your frame has a lot of custom components we may want to dial in the measurements more. This is something that Rogue Gear Works can assist you with, but if you’d like to measure for your frame yourself, you can watch our video tutorial on how to measure a raft for a frame or follow the steps below:

First, make sure your boat is fully inflated and sitting on a flat surface.

To start, we’ll need the straight section measurement, this will let us know how long of a frame we can fit, and how many bays we can squeeze in there for you. To do this, measure the straight section of your raft, from seam to seam. That is where your frame will sit. (Your maximum frame length can be a couple inches beyond that on certain models.)

Second, we need the inside width, which determines how wide of a dry box and cooler we can use. To do this, you’ll measure the inside of the boat, from inside tube to inside tube. Ideally this is done ati the front, back and center of your straight section.  Make sure to get the tightest section of the tube.

Third, we need the drop distance. This tells us how tall our boxes can be and how deep your cooler will sit into the boat. To do this, you’ll measure from the top of the tube to the top of the floor. Place a straight-edge (a 2×4 works great) across the center of the tubes. Measure from the tallest part of the floor to the bottom of the 2×4. Do this both in the middle and each end of the straight section.

Fourth, we’ll need the tube diameter.  This combined with the inside measurement will give us the overall width of your frame. Use that same 2×4 and extend it over the edge of the raft. Measure from the ground to the bottom of the 2×4.

Finally, we need the D-ring placement. Measure from the center of one D-ring to the center of the other.

What size footwell do I need?

For most people, a 22-26” footwell is ideal. But Rogue Gear Works can help you decide what size footwell you will need. Factors that come into play include your height and size of your boat.

What size dry box do I need?

We have a selection of production dry boxes to choose from, or Rogue Gear Works can create custom dry boxes to suit your unique needs. The length is determined by the inside width of your raft, the height depends on the drop distance, and the width (depth) depends on how many bays and what the straight section comes out to.

Which dry box accessories do you have available for purchase?

We offer a range of accessories including SS latches, butterfly latches, box leashes, box pins, floppy handles, seal material, EVA Foam Pad and footman loops.

How do I attach my new frame to my raft?

You use straps to attach your frame to the D-ring connection points around the raft. It’s important to properly secure your frame, and Rogue Gear Works will be happy to assist if needed.

What types of raft trailers do you manufacture?

Rogue Gear Works offers a drop deck raft trailer design or a flat deck raft trailer design.
